A drop keel

"Minuit" has a keel weighing 4.5 tons. With a length of 4.5 meters, the keel is also very "short": 1.38 meters. In the center there is a drop keel in exotic wood. This stabilizer revolves around an axle and can easily be pulled up in the keel or dropped to sail "against" the wind. Dropped, the draft is then 2.4 meters. The advantage of the system is that we can have a shallow draft of 1.38 meters which allows us to anchor close to the coast and to go through narrow channels to enter lagoons. We had the opportunity to anchor in protected bays that other boats could not reach.
